How to Actually Save When Shopping Online in Saudi Arabia

Most of what is written about saving money is promises with numbers its writer cannot know: "save hundreds of riyals every month". We do not write a number like that here, because what you save depends on what you buy and where, and nobody knows that before you do. What we write are ways for you to work out what you are actually saving — all of them done before you press "pay".
1. Compare the final total, not the discount percentage
The discount percentage is a number the store writes; the final total is what you pay. A product with a big discount can cost more than the same product without one at another store, and the difference only shows at checkout, after delivery and any fee are added.
How to apply it: put the product in the basket at two stores, go to checkout at both, and compare the last figure in Saudi riyals, everything included.
2. Know the free-shipping threshold before you build the basket
A code saves a percentage of the basket, and delivery is added as a fixed amount: 10% off a SAR 80 basket saves SAR 8, and a SAR 25 delivery fee eats that three times over. Free-shipping thresholds differ from store to store and they change; we collected them from the stores' own pages in our comparison of free-shipping thresholds.
And watch the opposite trap: adding an item you do not need to reach the threshold is not a saving if it costs more than the delivery fee.
3. Read the return window before you buy
The window decides how much you lose if you get the size or colour wrong. Some stores give you a few days, some a month, and many exclude anything whose packaging has been opened — perfume, cosmetics and supplements especially. And a big discount on an item that cannot be returned is not a saving if it does not suit you. The windows and exclusions are in our comparison of return windows.
4. Do not treat cashback as a discount
Cashback does not reduce the bill: you pay the full price, and part of it comes back later — usually as a balance you can only spend in the same store, and with a cap where it stops. So on a large order, "10% cashback" can be much less than that in practice. The calculation, with an example in riyals, is in the difference between cashback and a discount code.
5. Count the cost of cash on delivery
Cash on delivery is convenient, but at a number of stores it adds a fee, it can cost you free shipping, and a return you paid for in cash may come back as store credit rather than cash. So if you trust the store and can pay in advance, that fee may be one you can avoid. The details for each store are in cash-on-delivery fees.
6. Buy in the sale season with a list, not on impulse
The big sale seasons — White Friday, Ramadan, National Day and end-of-season sales — are real opportunities for anyone who goes in with a list and a reference price. Screenshot the price of what you want weeks before the season, so you can tell whether the "discount" is a real reduction or a price that was raised and then cut. How to prepare is in our White Friday guide.
7. Use the code at the last step, not the first
The code comes after you have checked the price, not before: decide what you are buying and for how much, then try the code to bring the amount down further. And if it is rejected, the reason is usually a condition you missed — a minimum, discounted items, or a space copied with the code — not a dead code.
When none of this saves anything
When the reason is the discount, not the need. Something you bought because it was discounted, and would not have bought otherwise, is not a saving, whatever the percentage.
When you buy more to save per unit. "Buy more, save more" lowers the price per item and raises what you pay — and saves nothing if you do not use the quantity before it expires.
When it costs you more time than it saves. Comparing five stores to save a couple of riyals on a cheap item is not a deal; the saving worth the effort is on large and repeated purchases.
In short
Before any order: compare the final total, know the shipping threshold and the return window, tell cashback from a discount, and count the cash-on-delivery fee if you choose it. That takes a few minutes, and it is what actually saves money — not promises with numbers.
